I am a friend of Jim's --we met in a therapy group, maybe 6-7 yrs. ago, and I instantly liked him. He was an "old timer" with a lot of wisdom ---a lot of great stories. At the same time he was a "young- 'un" ---always looking to learn something new about life, people, the world. Computers? Not so much ! --ha! He said he would like to throw them all out the window !
We would meet at bookstores and drink a lot of coffee. Jim loved to read, and he loved it when he felt that he found just the right book at just the right time. One time, at B & N, he forgot to put a book back on the shelf, and we walked out with it ! Ha. We always kidded each other about seeing our faces on a B & N Wanted poster! Ha. Down the road he told a mgr. what happened & offered to pay for the book, but the mgr. told him to forget about it.
We talked about books, nutrition, juicing, what was going on in the world, what we liked and what we didn' t. I asked him how men thought about life, and he always wanted to understand women ---ha. We never did come to any conclusions ! Ha.
He was a good friend to his friends. From what I saw---his friends were young, old, male and female, from all walks of life. He collected friends easily. I really liked that about him.
One thing that he was PASSIONATE about was his family ---he loved his kids so much and was so proud of each and everyone of them. He loved being a father. Loved his grandkids too ----bragged about them all the time --- said they were the greatest ! It made his day when he saw them or spoke to them on the phone. He didn't need anything else to feel blessed.
Jim, I am honored to call you my friend. I have learned so much from you. I have enjoyed your company, and your great sense of humor. And thank you for sharing your stories of your full, interesting, easy, difficult , wonderful, and extraordinary life.
I will always smile when I think of you!
Love, your friend,
Mary
