My deepest condolences to Nicole & family on the passing of Catherine. I first came to know Catherine through my mom who met her while walking up 47th Street on her way to our home on 48th. As Catherine swept the sidewalk in front her house, she and mom started chatting and realized they had much in common including both being feisty, sharp witted feminists. When my mom passed suddenly in 2001, Catherine stepped up & took me under her wings educating me to the responsibilities of home ownership and the ways of the real world. I witnessed her amazing fortitude in the face of her own sorrows and challenges and her love for Michael, Linda & Nicole. As the years passed, I became increasingly grateful for her friendship and the laughter we shared. I also came to feel that she was much like an older sister who I didn't have. She had my back, despite my knowing that at times I was a pain in her neck. Catherine will forever remain in my mind & heart and if there is such a thing called reincarnation, I'm counting on meeting up again. In the meantime, rest in Peace Catherine.

The thing that I will always remember is how welcoming you were from the first time we met. You made me feel so comfortable in your home. Then, Dennis and I asked if we could rent an apartment from you. You weren't crazy about our dog, Maggie, but you still loved on her when you saw her. You don't see St. Bernards in NY apartments very often. Linda was my best friend. I still have the letter you sent me along with the Christmas gift that she bought for me before she passed. I could sense the tears in your eyes as you wrote it to me letting me know that Linda had died. Now, your sweet granddaughter has let me know about you and the tears are falling once again. You are loved, dear Catherine.
