Obituary of Mary Jane Duffy
Mary "Jane" Duffy was a caring wife, mother and grandmother. She left this world on February 12th peacefully, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Bridget and William Duffy on May 9th, 1930 in New York City and was raised in Broher, Curry, Co. Sligo.
She arrived back in New York at the tender age of 17 and worked in New York City. On a return trip to Ireland, she met her husband, Paddy Duffy and married on October 30, 1954 in New York. They raised their children in Sunnyside and Woodside, New York.
Jane was known by all for her generous spirit. She was happiest when catering to others. If you arrived at her doorstep, she would insist you come in for a cup of tea and most likely a dinner, a dinner that would be fit for a king but one that she casually deemed "rough and ready."
Jane was a woman of strong faith and instilled the importance of family to those she loved. Being a mother and grandmother was one of the most important parts of Jane's life. It was the role of matriarch that gave her much pride and joy.
She was predeceased by her husband Paddy of Botuney, Curry, Co. Sligo and brothers Frank, Billy and Joseph Duffy. Sadly missed by her loving children Kevin (Jennifer), Joan, Brendan (Jaqueline), Monica (Martin), Bernadette (Michael) and grandchildren, Conor and Laura Duffy, Kaitlin and Bridget Mathis, Patrick (Nicole), Kevin, Michael, Martin and Joseph Duffy, Emma, Sarah, John and Olivia Hayes and beloved sister Theresa Duffy.
Although we are broken hearted for our loss, we are happy that our mother is reunited with our dad, her parents, brothers, extended family and most of all the Lord. May she reap the benefits of a life well lived in Heaven.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
