Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Devaney

Maureen Devaney nee Keegan was born April 22, 1944 in Ballinagurragh, Augher, Co. Tyrone and later raised in Glaslough, Co. Monaghan, Loving wife of Martin Devaney and predeceased by her parents Pat and Margaret Keegan, brothers Peter and Tim, sister Kathleen McGinley. She will be sorely missed by her nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and her many dear neighbors and friends in Woodside, Ireland, England and the wider NY metro area. Maureen was a long time resident of Woodside and parishioner of St. Sebastians for over 50 years. She was a proud member of the Pioneer and Abstinence Society for over 60 years. Before her sudden passing, Maureen was an active member of the New York Irish Center and their senior group. Always a jokester, Maureen will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, her laugh, and pulling the odd prank in the name of some good fun. She always kept a deck of cards handy and a quick game of 25 could start anywhere. Maureen was blessed with great neighbors. She treasured these relationships over the years, and Maureen was always one to reach out to help anyone in need. Always the giver and never the taker, her many acts of kindness—big and small—will not be forgotten. Visitation will be Monday, December 13, 2021 from 4-8 PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, 43-07 Queens Blvd. Sunnyside, NY Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 10:45 AM at St, Sebastian RC Church, 58th Street and Roosevelt Avenue , Woodside, NY. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the NY Irish Center in Long Island City, http://www.newyorkirishcenter.org
