Obituary of Cristina Scalet

Cristina Tania Scalet, age 53, of New York City, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital of New York after a long battle with cancer. Cristina was born on September 12, 1964 in Queens, NY. She was the Picture Editor for Sports Illustrated books and eBooks in New York City for eleven years. Before that, she was the Science Photo Editor at Time Magazine for 16 years. She won awards for Best in Photo Journalism three times in her career. As her co-workers would say, "Cristina was smart, creative and had a knife-sharp sense of humor." She is survived by her mother, Chela Arias Scalet Cowden; her father, Paul Scalet; her life partner, Dom Rafael; her Aunt Rose Nescot; her Uncle Ernie Arias; her Aunt Maryann Arias; her cousins Ernie Arias Jr., Ann Marie Arias Ramiz, John Arias, Lori Nescot Cress and Debbie Malina, and the many friends and co-workers who will mourn and miss her in their lives. Visitation will be Monday, December 18 from 5-9pm at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Church (Winfield),70-20 47th Avenue, Woodside, NY. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens following the Mass.
