Dear Sonia ... dear members of the Bellini family, Our tears are like rain, falling from the sky. God's love, falling from our eyes. Luiz was such a gentle, humble, and generous friend. I will miss him. Clearly, his spirit will live on for centuries in the beautiful instruments he made. But I want you to know another gift that Luiz brought to us, a gift that keeps growing as it is passed down amongst his violin making colleagues: the gift of sharing. In a time when trade secrets were an order of the day, Luiz shared freely his knowledge and techniques. This inspired others to do the same. It inspired me. And it has made such a difference for so many. The wounds of life bring healing to friends, because the heart that breaks is but opening again. We are sending you love and courage in this time of loss. Rest in Peace, Luiz. Gregg & Anna Alf

Luiz was a kind person, a wonderful craftsman and artist. We worked together in Jacques Francais' workshop at 140 West 57th Street in the late 60s. Rene Morel ran the shop. Both Rene and Jacques obviously had a lot of respect for Luiz and the fine work that he did in restorations. Later he decided to make his copies of famous instruments that were highly sought after by the best violinists of the day. Luiz gave advice very freely when asked, he didn't keep secrets, his greatness lay in his artistry. Though I saw him very little in the last thirty or so years I will miss him. Andrea
