Our deepest condolences with the loss of your dad and opa.
For me, uncle Roel, was a person with joy and laughter.
He stayed a lot of times at our place when he was in Holland.
It was always great to have him for a while. Last time we saw him was in New York.
he was so happy that we were there on his 80e birthday. We had a great time with him and Luke and now both passed away. We don't know what to say without tears.

So many memories of Uncle Roel, especially of many years ago, when he would visit at
my parents home (John and Ieka) and always have a funny story to tell or show us something new he had purchased.
I remember him being the first person I knew to own a colour tv when he lived in Oshawa :)
We always enjoyed his company and he was a fun uncle that we looked forward to getting together with. He was not a quiet person but fun and outgoing and would make time to talk with everyone and enjoy a story or two. His long cigarettes in the special case :) His laughter is our favourite memory.

Dear Vanderkooi Family,
My husband Richard and were friends with Roel and we will miss him. His ready laugh and cheer made him nice to be around. He often kindly gave people a lift if needed it or pitched in if he could. He was generous with everyone. His complete precision and conscientiousness in professional matters made him extremely valuable as volunteer in his many local community affiliations. He often helped us at Sunnyside Artists events. When he worked for Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan, or as a travel agent or tour guide, he was helpful to all. We are very sorry and hope to see you at the visitation.
For most in Sunnyside, all we know about Dutch royalty and Dutch food, we learned from him!
