Obituary of Chris Canning

Chris Canning, age 86, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. Chris was born December 21, 1927 in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. For 50 years he was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Also a longtime member and honoree of the Co. Leitrim Society. He was a Korean War Veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was also an owner and proprietor of many pubs in Queens. Chris was a beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen (Johnson). Loving father of Kathie Channing Glassman and her husband Gary, Tommy and his wife Katinka, Sean and his wife Susan, and Mary Naranjo and her husband Mark. Cherished grandfather of Nicole, Patrick, Katrinka, Jimmy, Caitlin, Conor, and Casey. Dear brother of Charles, Mary McCartin, Lily Behrens, Margaret Voity, and the late Patrick, Thomas, Helen Tyran, Anthony, and John. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am on Monday, May 19, 2014 at St. Teresa RCC, 44th Street And 50th Avenue, Woodside, NY. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside following the mass. Visitation will be Sunday, May 18 from 2-5PM and 7-9:30PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY.
