Obituary of Marleny Velez

Marleny Velez, 79, of Medellin, Colombia passed away on June 22nd in her daughter's home in Jackson Heights, NY surrounded by family, friends and an abundance of love. Marleny Velez was born in Balboa, Colombia to Concepción Montoya de Velez and Rafael Velez on May 1st, 1945. She worked as a cleaner for over 30 years and was a member of the union 32BJ. She enjoyed music, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was generous to family, friends and charities like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Beloved mother to Jessica Flores and Wilson Cabrera. Devoted grandmother to Joshuwa Raymond Cabrera, Catalina Isabel Malone, Liam Victorino Cabrera, Louis Jacob Cabrera, Clara Teresa Malone, LizaBella Marie Cabrera and Bernard Rafael Malone. Loving mother-in-law to Christopher Malone and Jamellah Cabrera Ydia. She is also survived by her cherished sister Jahel Velez and by her loving nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Rafael Montoya and Concepción Velez, her siblings Rigoberto Velez, Celina Aguirre, Hubertina Ramirez, Virgelina Lopera and Requilda Velez. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 25 from 4-8PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Funeral Mass will be held 10:45 am on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at St. Joan Of Arc RCC, 82-00 35th Avenue, Jackson Heights, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to her medical team at Northwell Health and VNS Health Hospice Care. Marleny will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her and in every act of kindness we pass on.
