Obituary of Marsha E. Chin

Marsha E. Chin died February 23, 2024 Marsha was born December 6, 1948 in Newark, NJ. It is with deep sorrow and much love the family of Marsha Elaine Chin announces her death. She passed peacefully and painlessly while surrounded by loved ones on February 23, 2024. She was a pillar of love and kindness that will be deeply missed. Elaine, as she was known to most people in her life (or Titi to her nieces and nephews), was born on December 6, 1948 in Newark, NJ. She spent her childhood and formative years residing in Brooklyn, NY where she was raised by her mother, Robbie Mae Robinson, and stepfather, Ralph William Covington. Elaine graduated from Clara Barton H.S. as an LPN. Her compassion for people led her to a brief career in nursing as a private duty nurse in Lenox Hill Hospital. Due to her gentle nature, she chose to change professions and returned to school at Baruch University studying business and language. Prior to becoming a wife and mother, Elaine studied martial arts and Chinese. She was naturally gifted when it came to mastering different languages. Her studies were interrupted by her decision to become a wife and mother. After becoming a mother, she decided to discontinue her studies and devote her time to being a mother and used her business skills to work part-time in the retail industry. She was known for having a strong work ethic, being a team player and thoughtful of her coworkers. She was also an asset to her team, because she was well read and knowledgeable about varied merchandise. Elaine had a wide variety of interests and talents. While riding around in her car or at home, she would easily lapse into song. She had a beautiful voice that she often didn't share out of shyness. Just like her father, she enjoyed rollerskating and even skated competitively in minor league skating competitions in her spare time. She also enjoyed and was knowledgeable about ice skating and followed olympic ice skating champions. Elaine was known to always smell so good. You knew when she entered a room because her scent preceded her. She could inform you about the latest perfumes and scents and generously gifted her family with beauty products. If she had two of anything you could have one of them. She was known for her signature red lipstick. Elaine had a natural love of children and a desire to protect them. She was affectionately known as Titi to nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Always there to babysit and spoil them. If you looked for her at any family gathering, she would be in the room with the children. She was never too busy to indulge in imaginary play with them or soothe their tears. She was the epitome of the child/baby whisperer. When relaxing she could be found enjoying old Westerns, the old Classics, musicals and mystery shows. She also enjoyed watching baseball and attending baseball games with her son, Guan-Tai and her father, Ralph. She would proudly wear a baseball cap proclaiming her loyalty to the NY Mets. She was a fan of all things Harry Potter as evidenced by memorabilia she collected. She is preceded in death by her mother Robbie Mae Robinson, stepfather Ralph William Covington, and her brothers Theodore Roosevelt Robinson & Joseph Lamont Green. She leaves to mourn her, her only child Guan-Tai Chin, her only grandchild, Grayson, her daughter-in-law Daniela Fusco-Chin, her stepmother, Hattie Covington, her siblings, Lance Robinson, Nefredia Covington and Darryl Covington and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, extended family and work community. May she rest in peace knowing that she was loved and appreciated by so many and will be greatly missed. Her strength, warmth, compassion and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be Thursday, March 7 from 10AM-12:00PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside on Thursday, March 7 at 12:30 pm.
