Obituary of Richard Schultz

Richard Schultz passed away peacefully, on August 21, 2023 at the age of 87. Richard will join his sisters: Wanda, Rida, and Martha Schultz, his parents: August and Wanda Schultz and his niece, Diane deCavaignac in heaven. Richard is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Schultz, Niece, Sandi Derrico (Chris), Nephew in-law Daniel deCavaignac, Nephews: Ken Brackley, Johnny Schultz (Kim), Jimmy Schultz (Maryann), Joey Schultz (Debbie), and his great grand-nieces and nephews: Christopher, Hunter, Ryan, Alyssa, Madison, Olivia, Lindsey, Morgan, Kylie, Bennett, Jack, Mia. Richard was born in Germany on August 4th, 1936 and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 18. He spent his life in Queens, NY where he was an active member of the Sunnyside community, St. Paul's German Lutheran Church and many local German organizations. It was abundantly clear that three key things from his upbringing, escaping war-torn Europe, were ever present in his life: his commitment to family, his German heritage and his faith. When the Schultz's moved to Queens they joined St. Paul's German Lutheran Church. Richard quickly became an active member within the church and held a variety of senior leadership positions well into his later years. Above all he was someone that other individuals at the church could rely on to always get things done and to always do the right thing. Richard never lost his connection with his native country, Germany and embraced German culture here in the U.S. However, he also grew to love his adopted country as well. His patriotism and sense of duty inspired him to enlist in the US army. His time in the military gave him a work ethic and appreciation for principles that he would carry with him through the rest of his life. After his time in the service, Richard worked as a contractor and steadily grew his business, Schultz Contracting. While he was certainly the type of person who was very serious about working hard, he was also fully committed to his family. He was the most loving son, brother and uncle who constantly put others' needs ahead of his own. Even right up to his very last days, Richard was more concerned about his family's well-being over his own. It is that selflessness and devotion to his family that will carry on with his loved ones. Richard will be remembered for his selflessness and generosity towards everyone around him. His spirit will live on through all the loved ones in his life. May he rest in peace. The family will welcome friends and family on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 9:30-11:30 am Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. The prayer service will be conducted at the Funeral Home. A Funeral service celebrating Richard's life will be held at 11:30AM in All Faiths Cemetery, in Middle Village. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wanda's name to either Cycle for Survival or the Konga Project. Viewing: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/83660490352?pwd=RnNhMlNwMTg1SHM2RFk0a3ZEWmJNQT09
