Obituary of Jason Thomas Abbenante

Beloved father, son, brother, and friend, Jason “Jay” Thomas Abbenante, 44, of Sunnyside, New York passed away at home peacefully on December 16, 2022. Jason was born in Heidelberg, Germany, the son of Thomas and Maureen Abbenante (MacTavish), on July 15, 1978. Jason graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1996 and attended SUNY Potsdam, earning a degree in Sociology. It was at Potsdam where Jason's friendship with Lili Toutounas began. That friendship eventually blossomed into a lifelong partnership and the start of their own family. They were approaching their 10th anniversary together. Jason was an avid reader, vinyl record enthusiast, and comic book aficionado as well as a talented artist. From hand-drawn doodles to graphic art and design, he was always working on something unique. Enthusiasm for his hobbies and the love he had for his family brought him the greatest joy. With his undeniable charisma, Jason left an impression on everyone he met. His incredible sense of humor and wry wit would often leave loved ones in stitches. He could always be counted on to create lasting memories. Jason worked as a dedicated caretaker for the Altan Family of Queens, NY, creating a special friendship with their son Matthew. Remaining to cherish Jason’s memory are his partner-in-life, Lili; children Omar and Esme; parents Tom and Maureen; brothers Blake and Nicholas; sisters-in-law Theodora and Sarah; nieces Ava and Ryan; and nephew Luca. A celebration of Jason’s life will take place at a future date.
