I only recently learnt of Michelle's passing and it has taken me a few days to digest. I am so sorry for your loss Juan and Cara Mia. I worked with Michelle at Quarto, me in the UK and her in the US. I have never met you both, but I feel like I know you so well as Michelle talked about you constantly with love and pride. Her face always lit up when she talked about you. I always loved seeing Michelle at the book fairs, listening to her hilarious stories, watching her classic funny facial expressions and of course seeing her glorious red hair. Despite leaving Quarto, I remained friends with Michelle and although we had little opportunity to meet, when we did it was like we saw each other yesterday. She was that kind of person. One in a million.
I will miss you my dear friend. You will always have a place in my heart. I'll raise a pint of the black stuff on St Patricks. I know you loved all the celebrations. Sleep tight xxx

Michelle was an amazingly warm, strong, compassionate, and caring woman. I had the pleasure and honor of working with her throughout my years with Quarto, and enjoyed many conversations about books, but at least as many about life. She never ceased to amaze me with the breadth of her knowledge. She’s been a mentor, confidant, teacher and friend to both me and my daughter, Leeann. Michelle enriched our life in so many ways. She made us smile and look at life just a little differently. Michelle loved and was loved and will be sorely missed. Although I’ve never met them, my heart goes out to Juan and to Cara Maria, and I hope it gives them comfort to know that Michelle continues to live on in each of us who knew and loved her, in our thoughts, in our hearts, in our memories & in our pictures. I will never forget Michelle, or the love, knowledge and positive outlook on life she bestowed on all of us…

We just learned today of Michelle's passing, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Juan and Cara Mia. I worked with Michelle at the Downtown B&N and was incredibly fortunate to have her as a friend for so many years. She was a genuine person, a true original, with a wonderful heart and a razor-sharp sense of humor. Her laughter was so memorable that I still think "That's a Michelle laugh" when I hear spirit-filled laughter. Like everyone who met her, I have so many Michelle stories which I will treasure forever. It's hard to imagine a world without her, but I know she is making the angels laugh and keeping a loving eye on all of us. Debbie, Emily and I will miss her terribly.

Whenever I think of Michelle, the first thing that always comes to mind is her warm, welcoming smile and radiant laugh, which is what she greeted with me on my first day of work at Quarto. Always willing to help me with anything I needed, Michelle had an uncanny knack for anticipating my questions of what I didn’t understand and would always have the perfect course of action and solution at her fingertips ready for me before I even asked! She generously shared her extensive knowledge of books and publishing, and I learned invaluable knowledge from her. During our office parties, Michelle and I would often cook in the kitchen together and would share our growing-up stories, laughing and joking together among the warm and festive scent of cinnamon from her famous crockpot bread pudding that was always an office favorite. I will always cherish those shared moments. It’s not often that you meet coworkers like Michelle who are not only the best colleague you could wish for, but also a close friend, always there for you with support, encouragement, and perfect advice in any type of situation. Always beaming with joy and positivity and ready for a funny story and a good joke, I will eternally be grateful to have known her. Sending my thoughts and prayers to her entire family, please know that Michelle will always be remembered as a shining star by everyone who was fortunate to have crossed her path.

My deepest condolences to Cara Mia and Juan. Michelle was the coolest, craziest friend a girl could ever hope for. We have the spent the past twenty years of our lives together working, laughing, and having a great time. Michelle was fun and smart and I am so much better for having known her. I cannot put into words how much I will miss her. Rage

My deepest condolences to Cara Mia, Juan, and the rest of Michelle’s family. She was such a sweet and funny person to work with. I appreciate all the advice she gave me and what I learned working with her for the last three years. She always rocked cool earrings or shoes around the office. I will miss the fun conversations and her loving energy. Sending love and hugs to her family. Rest In Peace, Queen.

My deepest condolences to Juan, Cara Mia, and the rest of Michelle's family and friends. Michelle was such an amazing person. I got to work with her briefly many years ago. She always made my day brighter with her humor, kindness, and friendship. I truly believe she made the world a brighter place for everyone she met. She will be missed with fond memories.

Mas que una comadre, más como una segunda mamá, una gran mujer que con sus platicas me enseñó mucho. Duele mucho tu partida pero se que ahora estás descansando en un lugar bonito y sin dolor.
Rest easy Shelly!
