Eulogy for my aunt Gaby:
For the people that don’t know me, my name is Lucila B. Pardavé-Carrillo (Lucy). I am one of the nieces of aunt Gaby, I think I am the youngest one, if I am not mistaken. She had 14 nieces and 7 nephews and many more grand nieces and nephews, (I apologize in advance if I left anyone out, not intentionally) which she loved and cared for each one of them. I say this because her life legacy was to labor so she together with her sisters could assist them to a better future. She was a woman that moved the pieces for people to come in action in order to help others for more opportunities. She was a woman that not needed to be seen, she behind the curtains moved the pieces for each one of us and our descendants (children and their children’s children) will acquire their dreams.
Alejandra Gabriela Carrillo, was a pioneer woman. She was one of the Carrillo’s sisters that open the path for her family to cross the ocean for a better life, a better education, more opportunities. She was born in Gorgor, Peru. As a young woman transitioned to the capital of Lima, Peru; as a young adult immigrated to New York, USA . Her immigration to new places shows us that tía Gaby lived with a vision; a vision of adventure and courage. She moved to a new country, new culture, new language, etc, that didn’t stop her, so she is adventurous and courageous woman. Since before moving to the New York, she helped her family and more so when she moved to NY city. She continued and dedicated her life to provide her family with opportunities have a better life. She continued with this work into her adulthood, middle age and senior years. Tía Gaby did not only help her family to an opportunity of a better life but also left a legacy of strength, persistence and consistency. Qualities that she left for us to follow and to improve. I am very sure that she wanted for each one of us to do much better than she did and I say this because don’t we want the next generation to do better than we do? Yes, we do…
A memory that I personally have is about her taking me to her workplace in Manhattan and connected me up with one of the boys that’s he cared for, so he could teach me English and I could teach him Spanish. She utilized every occasion with a purpose, very intentional on her steps and that placed a high standard and showed me that we don’t spend time, people or situations for no reason but we very intentionally need to be present in every aspect of our lives for us and for others.
As we say goodbye to tía Gaby today, we acknowledge and celebrate her life. You are gone tía Gaby and we will miss you but you will not be forgotten.

I remember when I was kid my mom and I would visit tia gaby, more often sometimes stay overnight and we staying with her during my school vacations.
whenever my mom and I get a chance, we take a trip to different places especially New York to see tia gaby and likes to see her and talk to her. My mom talk to her about family to keep her update and let her know that everybody where fine and happy.
She often ask me about my personal life, more importantly, to see if I have a girlfriend and keep remind me to get marry and have a family. She was always about family.
My mom told me about how tia gaby take care of most of her siblings growing up in Peru, Canada and in New York, and waiting for them to spread their wings to fly on their own and they did.
For me, she was always welcome me with open arms and show love when I was around her. Therefore tia gaby you always be missed.
Tia gaby you may be gone but never forgotten. I Love you.
