Obituary of Libertad Torrente

Libertad Torrente – October 2, 1937 – August 14, 2021 Born Maria Libertad Torrente on the West Side of Manhattan, better known as Greenwich Village. She was the 14th of 15 children born to Elena and Nicolas Torrente. Libby, as she was known to everyone, lived in a Brownstone at 357 West 11th Street. She attended PS 3 and Central Commercial High School, where she majored in bookkeeping. She went to work for Bruno New York and later became a partner in ROOR Creations (which then became known as Cognoscenti). In 1959, she married and had two children, Frank born in 1962 and Stephan born in 1970. In 1986, her immediate family started to grow, Frank married Monica and in 1987 they gave Libby her first grandchild Nicole. In 1992, Libby retired and enjoyed spending most of her summers in Italy with her life partner of 40+ years, Roger. Then in 1995, her second grandchild Samantha was born. In 2012, Nicole and Timmy blessed her with her first great grandchild, Brian and then, again in 2017 with her second great grandson, Finnegan. Libby is survived by her two sons, Frank and Stephan, her daughter-in-law, Monica, her granddaughters Nicole and Samantha, her grandson-in-law, Timmy, her two great grandsons, Brian and Finnegan, her sister Josephine and a loving extended family. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 18 from 4-8PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Funeral Mass will be held 10am on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at St. Teresa RCC, 44th Street And 50th Avenue, Woodside, NY. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Middle Village following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Libby.
