Obituary of Joseph Vessillo

Joseph Vessillo was born on August 13, 1958 and passed away on July 23, 2021. Joe was born in Long Island City to Maria and Giuseppe Vessillo. He is the youngest of four children; and was the first American-born member of the Vessillo family that emigrated from Italy to the U.S. in 1956. Joseph attended St. Mary's grammar school, Aviation High School and St. John's University where he earned a degree in Doctor of Pharmacy. In 1988 Joe left Long Island City and moved to Arizona. He worked as an outpatient staff pharmacist at the Maricopa County Hospital, now Valleywise Health, from 1989 until his recent retirement in June of 2021. His coworkers fondly remember Joe for the treats he would bring to work and his crazy sense of humor. He touched a lot of hearts there and will be dearly missed. Joe was passionate about his dogs, tropical fish, gardening, cooking and playing guitar. He loved biking, mountain hiking and electronics. Joe is survived by his mother, brother, two sisters, three nieces, two nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. Joe will be dearly missed, and his spirit will always be a part of us. Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at St. Mary's Church, 10-08 49th Avenue, Long Island City, NY. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Middle Village. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Chandler, Arizona https://secure2.convio.net/azhs/site/Donation2?1449.donation=form1&df_id=1449&_ga=2.102582793.942562652.1628115121-1633574640.1628115121
