Obituary of Manuel DeJesus Mendez

Loving and loyal husband to Maria. Beloved father to sons Elvin, Giovanni, Miguel, and Johnny. Caring grandfather to Philip, Adriana, Stephen, Jonathan, and Francesca. Humble. Patient. Empathic. He led the family through strength and example. Always willing to share anecdotes and his life experiences. Manuel was a Master Sergeant in the Dominican Air Force. He came to the U.S. with little, but was able to live the American dream. He was an honest, hard-working man for whom family was the most precious commodity. Manuel valued knowledge and education, taking great pride in knowing that all four sons graduated from college. He took joy in learning of the daily happenings in the lives of his grandchildren. A religious man, he was a Deacon and lived his life by the teachings of the gospel. He had a keen understanding that everyone is different, but he shared a singular love and respect towards all. Always quick to lend a helping hand to whomever needed support, never wanting anything in return. He leaves behind a legacy that words alone can not do justice. His spirit is bigger than words. He was Papi. Abuelo. Tío. Temo. El General de Cuatro Estrellas. He will forever be enshrined in our hearts. Visitation will be Friday, February 26 from 4-8PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at St. Teresa RCC, 44th Street And 50th Avenue, Woodside, NY. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside.
