Obituary of Anthony Trgo

On February 12, 2021, Anthony Trgo, a resident of Sunnyside, NY for 57 years, passed away at home in the tender care of his beloved wife, Irene. Anthony was born, on October 28, 1926, in a small village on the beautiful Dalmatian coast in what is today the country of Croatia. While still a boy, his life was dramatically impacted by the actions of invading Axis forces into the region. As it did for so many others, the post-war devastation lead to his migration to the United States, where he was able find work to help support those left behind. The United States was also where he found his devoted wife of 63 years, Irene, and countless other things for which he was always grateful. Anthony was the last of his siblings to pass: he joins his brothers Jure, Filip and Ljubomir; and his sisters Marisa and Ljubica - may they gather together again and fill their bellies on grilled lamb, olives, figs, good wine and love. He also joins his wonderful mother-in-law, Louise, to whom he was devoted. He leaves behind his daughter, Stephanie (James) and son, Anthony (Maria); his grandchildren, Alexandra (Colin), Matthew (Cassandra), Mark and Marina; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Gladys. In light of Covid, visitation will be private. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church, 35-20 Greenpoint Ave., Long Island City, N.Y. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Anthony's memory to St. Raphael's Food Pantry 35-20 Greenpoint Avenue, Long Island City, N.Y. 11101.
