Obituary of Joseph F Havas

Joseph Francis Havas, 91 passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at L.I. Jewish Hospital, Queens, NY. Joseph was a Korean war veteran and a linotype operator by trade. His smile, corny jokes and generous heart will be missed by all who knew him. Joseph was born in Manhattan, NY, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Havas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John, who was killed in WWII, George and Michael, his sister Mary Lazar and his niece Susan McCay. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Harvey Katowitz; grandsons Joseph and Michael Katowitz, granddaughter Kristen Katowitz; great-grandsons Dakota and Jakob Hyde and Lucas Beaver; nephews John Havas (Sharyn) Michael Havas (Maggi), Jeffrey Havas (JoAnn), Donnie Lazar (Sandy), Robert Lazar; Nieces Barbara-Jean Porter (Ron), Christina Lazar and Judith Bonfiglio (Michael); several grand-nieces and nephews, and last but not least a special person in his life, his companion and guardian angel, Agnes Strand. A funeral mass honoring his life will take place at St. Sebastian's Roman Catholic Church, 39-58-02 Roosevelt Ave. Woodside, NY. Burial to follow at St John's cemetery. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
