Willie, thank you for your gift of friendship to our mother, May, all those years. You were a bright spot in her and our life. We have such happy memories of you coming to our house on Christmas and had so many good Saint Patrick’s Days together. We’re glad he is finally at peace and we are sure he is having a drink with our mom in heaven.

My father wrote me only one letter ever since I left for America in 1986, and it is something that I will always treasure. He said you will be okay because you have Willie to hold your hand, and that is exactly what he did for me. He helped and guided me and I am forever grateful. His heart was so full of love for his family, and he loved children especially his nieces and nephews. He was a second grandfather to my children and we will miss him greatly❤️ Rest in peace dear Uncle Willie❤️

God bless Uncle Willie and May the perpetual light shine upon him. He was a shining light in the eyes of his family who will dearly miss himself and his unique humor. Uncle Willie was always present in our lives in so many ways . He presented myself and my sisters, Mary and Elizabeth, with our first puppy, Lassie when we were youngsters. Every Christmas, Uncle Willie would pick Mary and myself up to go to Stevens to pick out Christmas gifts for the family. There were Trips to the beach or to the Catskills for a fun times , just as with Family parties, weddings, graduations and birthdays. Bumping into him in the neighborhood was aLways such a pleasure. God bless Uncle Willie.
Rest In Peace.
Love you, Emily McMahon.

In loving memory of a wonderful brother and uncle, William Oliver McMahon, age 86, who passed away on May 12, 2020, peacefully in his sleep at home in New York. A proud native of Kilmurry McMahon and a longtime resident of Woodside, NYC, New York, Willie was born in August of 1933. Willie (Jake) was the proud and loving Uncle, great Uncle and great-great Uncle to many nieces and nephews in Ireland and America. He is survived by his brother, John (Rita) McMahon of Kilrush, and his sisters, Christina (Alfie) Marrinan of Kilkee and Geraldine (Paddy) Griffin of Dublin. He was predeceased by his siblings of Michael (Emily) McMahon, Nancy (Michael) Moran , Patrick (Sarah) McMahon, Martin (Clare) McMahon and Mary McMahon who are enjoying his company now.
Willie at the age of 22, joined the United States Army after emigration, to fight in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a private first class where he received a good conduct medal and the National Defense Service medal. He settled into life in New York with a successful career as a Con Edison Supervisor where he worked for over 40 years in New York City. He displayed an amazing knack for solving problems. Willie truly lived life to the fullest as a free spirit from his track days in Clare, early days of farming at home in Kilmurry McMahon, trying his hand at an amateur boxing career, trips to the Bronx to enjoy a bit of home with the sporting events at Gaelic Park with football and hurling, to a good game of golf with his nephews Michael and Brian, to making treasured memories for all of his nieces and nephews in New York and in Ireland. He tremendously enjoyed spending his free time at his “Ponderosa” summer home in the New York State Catskills Mountains where he appreciated the “Irish Alps.” He was a member of the New York Claremen’s Association. He was a devoted supporter of the family and will be dearly missed. May he rest in peace.
Interment will be at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York. A memorial will be held privately at a later date.
We will truly be missed by all

Fond memories of a loving brother who made regular trips to our home in Malahide during his many trips home for the All Ireland football final, never short of a stand ticket he loved his GAA.
Pictured William Oliver leaving for the USA on October 15th 1952 also with Sister Geraldine at Malahide Castle.
Treasured memories of our visits to Woodside in recent years.
