Obituary of Olivia Diana McGuire

Olivia Diana McGuire was born on October 4, 1950 in Harlem, New York. She was the first born to the late Richard and Odessa Herd. In 1958, the family moved to the Bronxdale Houses in Bronx, New York. Olivia graduated from James Monroe High School, where she was enrolled in an honors program and earned straight A's. Olivia's favorite course was Biology, and she dreamed of being in the medical field. Biology class is also where she discovered her love of animals, beginning with her pet guinea pig "Piggy" and lastly her beloved dog Charlie. Olivia was also very athletic and ran on the high school track team. Olivia later relocated to Queens with her family. In 1974, she began her career at Con Edison, where she was recognized for her exemplary work ethic and excellent customer service. Olivia was a proud member of Local 1-2 Utility Workers Union of America. She retired as a Senior Customer Service Representative after 34 years of loyal service. Olivia is fondly remembered for her melodic phone voice and her unyielding capacity for hearing her customers and helping them resolve their issues. Olivia was a beautiful, vivacious woman, who was loved by many. Known for her gift to put things "just the right way" and bring "light to a room. She had a personality that drew people to her, even strangers. Olivia loved to shop for new items from the fashions to sweets, and was particularly known for buying anything labeled "new". She loved the chase of a good deal, whether at Lord and Taylor or CVS. Olivia was the proud mother of three daughters, and loved to celebrate birthdays and Christmas with her family. She enjoyed traveling, and attending Broadway musicals and concerts, as well as going to street fairs in Manhattan with her loving husband, Peter. She also enjoyed going to the movies and watching game shows. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her devoted husband Peter McGuire; her three loving daughters Lalena Fernandez-Butler (Henry), Samantha Thomas (Jonathan), and Dana Bryant (Jason); her cherished grandsons Kevin Butler and Miles Butler; her three beloved brothers Reginald Herd (Joanne), Michael Herd (Lisette), and Jeffrey Herd; her endeared sisters in-law Ellen Afanador (Carlos), Maura Patalona (Ron), and the late Margaret DePrimo (John); her beloved nieces and nephews Dallas Herd (Dilan), Denise Herd, Austin Herd, Philip Herd, Meghan Herd, Jessica Herd, Johnathan herd special cousins Celestine Miller and Vivian Suggs; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, October 11 from 2-5PM and 7-9PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside.
