"Mimi was picked up by the angels this afternoon. My heart is broken, but I'm so happy for her. Mimi has been missing her sisters and husband something fierce, and today they were all reunited. I hope heaven is full of chocolate milkshakes and free of bad coffee. I hope Mimi's girdle is never too tight and that her bra is substantial and supportive without any pinching. I hope Mimi feels as carefree as she looks in this photo, that heaven has a polka-dotted hammock around every bend. My grandmother was truly the love of my life. Her love was unwavering, her support beyond abundant. Mimi was my champion, and an absolute master at holding tight and letting go. Gratitude isn't a big enough word to describe how I feel about having the world's best grandmother. My heart is flooded with memories of all our good times, and the highlight reel is full of every bit of it from watching TV and eating Oreos and Mallomars in bed to our epic cross-country roadtrip. Back in January I was able to celebrate Mimi's 95th birthday with her, pizza, and seven-layer cake. Last month Mimi fell and broke her hip and wrist, and we knew the end wasn't far off. Mimi has seen all of her sisters in her dreams, but Helen was the one who kept showing up recently, asking her to go with her. I'm glad Helen finally came up with an offer Mimi couldn't refuse, most likely it involved boys and sweets. My heart is broken, but I'm so happy for Mimi. I won't reach my mother until Saturday morning, but keep her in your thoughts and drop her a note if you can. Maureen Offmiss Stathis is strong but sensitive, and I know she'd love to hear from you." ~~~Jaime Stathis~~~
