Gheorghe Balasov Obituary

Gheorghe Balasov, 81, of Jackson Heights, New York, passed away on November 6, 2025.

Born in Bucharest, Romania, Gheorghe built a life defined by integrity, intellect, and quiet strength. He earned his Master's degree in Construction Engineering from the University of Bucharest and dedicated his career to building not only structures, but also a legacy of discipline, curiosity, and resilience.

An avid reader and passionate chess enthusiast, Gheorghe approached both books and life with deep thought and strategic clarity. His values were shaped profoundly by his participation in the 1989 Romanian Revolution and the 1990 University Square anti-communist protests—moments that fortified his belief in freedom, justice, and human dignity.

In 1991, Gheorghe emigrated to the United States, settling in Jackson Heights, where he built a warm and welcoming home rooted in family and tradition. He shared 52 years of devoted marriage with the love of his life, Maria Gabriela, whose passing four years ago left him with a sorrow he carried with quiet courage.

Gheorghe is survived by his son, Filip, and his beloved grandchildren, Sebastian and Catinca, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He will be remembered for his sharp mind, his unwavering principles, his gentle humor, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the stories he shared, and the lives he shaped.

May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Maria Gabriela.
