Obituary of Susan Ann Broda
Susan Ann Broda (née Dowdle), a lifelong New Yorker, passed away on September 24, 2025, at Elmhurst Hospital, at the age of 74. She was born on August 2, 1951, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to the late Herbert and Mary E. Dowdle.
Susan was the beloved wife of over 50 years to John Stephen Broda. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and community. She was the devoted mother of John Anthony Broda and his wife Venise (née Karafa), and Michael Steven Broda and his wife Margaret (née Norris). She cherished her role as grandmother to Kyle, Andrew, Emily, and Mikaela, who brought her endless pride and joy.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings—Herbert, Rosemary, and Thomas—whom she now joins in eternal rest.
Born and raised in Greenpoint, Susan's roots in Brooklyn shaped the warmth and loyalty she carried throughout her life. It was there she met her husband, John, before settling in Sunnyside, Queens, where she lovingly raised her family and spent the rest of her years.
Susan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She had a gentle spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
She will be truly missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will remain forever.
