Catherine A. Grey was born in New York, NY, to her Irish Immigrant parents, Patrick and Anna Reddington, on January 18th, 1947. She attended St. Vincent Ferrer Grammar School and graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in N.Y.C. She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for several years. She then worked for the N.Y.P.D., 114 th Precinct as a School Crossing Guard for 38 years. Her post was on 31 st Street and Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria, NY, where she crossed generations of families to safety. She retired from the N.Y.P.D. in 2019, then resided at the Esplanade Senior Living facility in Staten Island, NY, where she made many new friends and made it her home. She enjoyed her final years at the Esplanade, with her friends, playing bingo, singing karaoke, watching movies, and sharing a laugh at night with her circle of friends. She loved her crossword puzzles, card games, LCR, bingo, oldies music, having a few beers with her friends, and spending time with her family.
Catherine A. Grey is survived by her beloved son, William R. Grey, and daughter-in-law, Rosemary C. Grey, and her precious four grandsons, Tiernan, Declan, Aidan, and Dylan Grey of Staten Island, NY. She is also survived by her dear sister Annmarie Sullivan, sisters-in-law, Bernadette Reddington and Barbara Grey, brothers-in-law, Michael Maloney and Ron Rich, and her beautiful nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends in the USA, Ireland, and England. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Grey, parents, Patrick and Anna Reddington, sisters Mary Maloney and Patsy Rich, brother, Michael P. Reddington, brothers-in-law, Pete Sullivan, Joseph Marsala, Patrick Grey, Richard Grey, James McGettigan and Jimmy Grey, sisters-in-law, Kathleen Marsala, Rosemarie Grey, Molly McGettigan, Anna Grey and Mary Grey.
Catherine is no longer in pain or suffering; she is now at peace. She will always be remembered for bringing a smile to everyone she met, showing compassion for those in need, lifting the spirits of those who were down, and being full of life and the life of the party like no one else. We will genuinely miss her; she will always be in our hearts.
As her favorite saint, Saint Padre Pio, always said…
