Obituary of Ruth E. Santiago

Ruth Santiago always wanted the most out of life—so much so that she decided to start early, arriving two months premature. As the firstborn of Carlos and Loida Santiago, every move and achievement of hers was documented and celebrated, a sentiment she carried with her into adulthood. She wanted people to feel special. Raised in Sunnyside, Queens, Ruth was well-liked everywhere she went. Whether attending school in Manhattan, working at JFK Airport and Bryant Park, or traveling across the city to watch the Mets, Rangers, and Liberty play—or catching a WWE live event—she made connections wherever she went. She was always friendly, often stopping to help someone with directions, assist a neighbor with installing new tech, or guide them through purchasing plane tickets online. She made sure her family felt her presence on important holidays, and her friends were showered with praise for their job promotions and life milestones. She lived with her mother and brother, Carlo, and always ensured they had everything they needed. For her, there was no question—her mother had to be comfortable, and her little brother had to be satisfied. Her love for sports was instilled by her late father at a young age. Baseball, hockey, soccer, football, basketball—there was always a new season to look forward to. She was passionate about pro wrestling, a love she shared with her brother, and spent countless hours playing The Sims, baking in the kitchen, and watching TV with her family. Family trips to Universal Orlando and Disney World will never be the same without her playful energy and excitement. She is survived by her mother, Loida, and her brother, Carlo. She was an irreplaceable part of their daily lives and will be dearly missed. She also held deep love for her Aunt Becky, Uncle Mike, Uncle Eli, cousin Mikey, and many other beloved family members and friends who made her 41 years on this earth enjoyable and worthwhile. "If this is to be our destiny, let's see it out together. Even in death…I will never leave you." — Xena: Warrior Princess In lieu of flowers and other memorial gifts, we ask for your support in easing the financial burden of moving forward without her: https://gofund.me/10caa54d Memorial Visitation will be Thursday, June 5 from 4-8PM at Edward D.
