To Devin and the Ryan Family,
We were fortunate to have known your father, Mr. Jack, and your mother, Maureen, for many years while growing up in Woodside, Queens. They were a truly beautiful couple who showed us, through their love and happiness, what a joyful and lasting marriage could look like.
I still remember the last time I saw Mr. Jack—he shared some advice with my brother and me about highway patrol always traveling in pairs, a moment that has stayed with us. His warm, infectious smile was a constant presence in our neighborhood and one we will never forget.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts are with you and your entire family during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
Maria, Walter, Danny, Jason, and Jessica

Jack was a wonderful and kind neighbor. I recall visiting his home with my sister and mom every Halloween. He was always prepared with a few bucks and some candy. He and Maureen were a joy to have next door as I grew up. Our block won’t be the same without him. My condolences to the family

Jack and I shared a friendship for over 40 years. But it was more than a friendship, it was a camaraderie which allowed us to sense each other's feelings and needs. Jack was always there for me and my family during our time of need and I hope that he would have said the same about me. He looked back with pride upon his years with NYPD and often shared some of his experiences with New York's Finest. He was also a proud Irishman and his emails frequently conveyed his Gaelic humor. Jack was a good man, a caring person and a devoted family man. I shall miss him dearly.
Rest In Peace My Friend

I will miss you Jack. You were so full of life and your presence instantly made any gathering more fun. I will miss your regular conversation starter “Have you heard the one about …” followed quickly by Devin’s question “Which joke are you telling Dad?”
I’m sure you’re already amusing the angels in Heaven. And I bet they loved “Spaghetti Spaghetti Spaghetti! 2 with meatballs one without.”

Jack Ryan was one of those rare people who made a lasting impression from the moment you met him. I first got to know Jack and his wife Maureen as they sat out on their front porch in Queens — a simple, familiar scene that turned into the beginning of a lifelong friendship. That porch became a place of conversation, laughter, and connection, and over time, Jack and I built a bond that was more like family than friendship.
Jack had a way about him — warm, genuine, and always quick with a joke. His sense of humor was effortless and infectious, lighting up any room (or porch) he was in. Whether he was sharing a funny story or just making a quick quip, Jack had a gift for making people smile and feel at ease. He didn’t need the spotlight — he brought light with him wherever he went.
We shared countless long phone calls over the years, talking about everything and nothing — always with Jack’s signature mix of humor, insight, and sincerity. He never failed to check in, and he never forgot the little things. He even made sure I always had my trusted PBA courtesy card — just one of many ways he looked out for me, like only a true friend would.
What stood out most about Jack, though, was how deeply family-oriented he was. He carried himself with a quiet strength, always putting those he loved first. You could see how much he adored Maureen, and how proud he was of his family. He lived with a sense of purpose and heart that made those around him better just by knowing him. Jack wasn’t just a friend — he was a steady, joyful presence in my life, and he’ll be deeply missed.

Rest in Peace Jack. I'll miss visiting with you and getting a good dose of bad jokes and highly entertaining old school NYPD stories.

Mr. Jack was our beloved neighbor for YEARS! We had the honor and privilege of living right across the street to Mr. Jack and Mrs. Maureen. He was more than a neighbor, he was family and a dear friend and Mr. Jack was truly THE BEST!! Mr. Jack saw all my kids grow up!! We often wished each other happy birthdays, well wishes and telling each other happy holidays!
Our entire family, near and far was saddned to hear the passing of Mr. Jack. The whole neighborhood felt the shock and our hearts dropped and all of the neighborhood felt the pain of losing a beloved friend and neighbor.
To our friendly neighborhood Jack, may you rest in peace. You will be sorely missed and our neighborhood will never be the same without you and Mrs. Maureen but at least you 2 love birds are reunited in the glory of God! We will hold down Woodside for you. Until we meet again Mr. Jack.... until we meet again....

Jack and Maureen became family for my husband and I in Oct. 2015 when Devin married our daughter, Anita. Over the past 10 years we have shared the joys as well as the sorrows that family implies. Jack always had a smile and a story! We will miss both of them at family gatherings but the memories will live on as we tell Lucy of these two wonderful people who were her grandparents! Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His Hand! Carolyn Peduzzi

Jack knew and had a story about every block in Queens. It has been thirty years since our families met through your son, Devin, and I will miss seeing you at the head of the table dispensing commentary from a life well-lived. But I know you have great people waiting for you on the other side. God speed, The Harper Family

To call Jack a neighbor would be awkward. He was family. As we shared the corner homes for thirty years and shared many stories from our front porch. He was often seen in front of his home talking to neighbors. He enjoyed conversation and genuinely embraced everyone. He was witty and had many jokes under his sleeve. When I greeted him as Hi Jack, he would respond “ Don’t say that on an airplane”. That home on the entry of the driveway will never be the same without Jack and Moreen. They were a blessing to 47th st and our lives.
