Obituary of Michael Patrick Reddington

Born: November 8, 1943 Entered into eternal life with our Lord: April 26, 2025 Michael Patrick Reddington I (Mike) was born in Manhattan, NY to his Irish immigrant parents. He was one of five siblings who were taught from an early age the value of family, faith and Christian values. Although he lost both parents at an early age, these values became the foundation for which Mike built his life. Growing up he was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer parish, who further developed his commitment and adoration to his Catholic faith. Throughout his life, he would reminisce of the compassion and kindness that the priests and nuns showed to him and his four sisters during their time of struggle. It was also here that Mike met and formed lifelong relationships with many friends and neighbors. Through this humble beginning, Mike grew into a person with the most beautiful and profound depth of character – he was kind with his words, generous with his time and looked upon others through the compassionate eyes of God – he saw the good in all and made you feel like you were the most important person in his life. He lived his faith through word and deed, always wearing a smile on his face. He met and married his beautiful wife, Bernadette McKeon, in 1971. settling in Sunnyside, NY where they started a family welcoming two children and creating a beautiful life. Mike was a devoted family man, loyal husband and loving father. There is nothing he loved more than spending time with his family. His love knew no boundaries - he was our teacher, mentor, role model, coach, biggest supporter and best friend! As freely as he gave to his family, he also gave to his community and country. He served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves with honor, he was widely respected as a baseball coach for many years in local youth sports, was an active parishioner and usher at Queen of Angels parish and what he valued most was his membership and service to the Knights of Columbus, Hudson Council #3701. Mike devoted his time to so many charitable events including the Special Olympics, the Mercy Home for Children, supported veteran causes and advocated for the call to religious life and men in formation to the priesthood. He was honored to serve for many years as Grand Knight and officer alongside his brother Knights who were his family. He truly embodied the four guiding principles of the Knights of Columbus – charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. This organization allowed his beautiful heart, integrity and love for others to shine. Mike is predeceased by his parents, Paddy and Anna Reddington, his beloved sisters Mary Maloney and Patsy Rich, adored family members Willie Grey Sr., Pete Sullivan, Tommy and Billy McKeon, Margaret and Tommy Burke and Kathleen Mazotas. Left to carry on his beautiful legacy is his devoted wife of 55 years, Bernadette, his beloved children Michael II and Michelle Reddington and Anne and Fintan Cooke, and his most precious gifts – his treasured grandchildren Michael III, Matthew and Caitlin Reddington and Cillian and Emmet Cooke. Also so valued to him were his sisters and brothers AnnMarie Sullivan, Catherine Grey, Mike Maloney, Ron Rich, Jean McKeon, Rita Kerrigan, Eileen and Bill Pesek, Rosemarie Post, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends in the USA, Ireland and England. Although his loss is immeasurable, Mike will live lovingly in the hearts of the many lives he has touched. Our hearts are filled with gratitude to God that we were all a special part of Mike's life. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand! Visitation will be Monday, April 28 from 3-8pm at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY.
