Obituary of Kyle Toner
It is with profound sadness that the family of Kyle Toner, 37, of Woodside, Queens, announce his passing.
Kyle Louis Imar Toner was born in St. John's Hospital in Queens to James "Jimmy" Toner and Mary Toner (neé Hoey) on November 7, 1987. He attended St. Mary's followed by several high schools, before gaining his GED and graduating as class valedictorian from LaGuardia Community College, much to his late mother Mary's delight.
Growing up in Woodside, Kyle had many friends with whom he'd hang out and skate. Though he eventually swapped out his skateboard for bikes, quads, and cars, many of those same childhood friends would remain with him for the rest of his life.
At 17, Kyle, following in his eldest brother's Shane's footsteps, joined the Carpenter's Union, where he worked for many years. A family man, Kyle loved (and loved to spoil) his six nieces and nephews, and he cherished spending time with his partner Meri, and her daughter Maggie. They'd just recently enjoyed a trip to Disney World together earlier this year.
Kyle also loved traveling, and he took many trips across Europe with his friends. But the place to which he undoubtedly returned most was Ireland, where he and his brothers spent every summer growing up. He loved going home to Armagh to visit the Toners, or join them on their annual trip to Slieve Gullion, as much as he enjoyed evenings spent chatting around the kitchen table, or walks by the lake, in Feahoe, with the Hoeys.
Kyle is survived by his beloved girlfriend Meri, her daughter Maggie, his brothers Shane, Niall, Emmet, and Chris, sisters-in-law Tara and Jenn, Emmet's partner Katie, aunts Margo, Ann, Margaret, Clare, and Nuala, uncles John, Coleman, and Vincent, and his many loving nieces and nephews (who will miss his wonderful Christmas and birthday gifts), Mary, Sarah, Shane, Ellie, Fiona, Tadhg, as well as two loving families back in Ireland.
He is predeceased by his father, Jimmy, and mother, Mary.
Funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Church, Woodside, on Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Edward Lynch Funeral Home (43-07 Queens Boulevard) on Sunday, April 13, from 4-8 p.m.
