Obituary of John Gibbbons

John Francis "Jack" Gibbons, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away at the age of 83 on January 17, 2025, at ExcelCare, a skilled nursing facility, following natural causes. Born on March 31, 1941, in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth Gibbons (Kreisel). Jack proudly served his country as a Military Police officer in the United States Army. After his service, he embarked on a career as a firefighter with the New York City Fire Department. He was passionate about his work and deeply proud of the community he served. Jack enjoyed an active life outside of his career, participating in the billiards league at the American Legion, visiting the shooting range, and spending time honing his woodworking and photography skills. He was also an avid poker player and a devoted gardener. Jack cherished his time spent at his summer home on the Jersey Shore, surrounded by family and friends. On May 4, 1990, Jack married Patricia A. Gibbons in Queens, New York. His beloved wife Patricia preceded him in death. He is also preceded by his parents, Francis and Elizabeth Gibbons. Jack is survived by his children: John Gibbons Jr. (Celia), Frank Gibbons, Christine Radice (Danny) and Brian Gibbons (Lyssette); his sister, Eileen Borgobello of Green Brook, NJ; and his cherished grandchildren: Devon, Antonella, Sarah, Vincent, Amanda, Gabrielle, Alexis, Billy, and Kirsten. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Hailey and Declan. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home located at 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY.
