Obituary of Francis X. Novak

My father, Frank and my Mother, Virginia lived on 38th Street for more than 50 years. My father especially liked sitting on the stoop and watch the kids go by to Queens Vocational High School. Actually he got to know some of them over the years. He would say pretty good kids, he commented several times. They owned a two family home and lived on the second floor. Nothing fancy but nice. We also had a fire escape where I spent a lot of time listening to The Yankees and the N. Y. Giants. My father loved to talk baseball to anyone who wanted to listen. He knew all the statistics standings of the teams batting averages. He also liked walking to Queens Blvd. and play the horses at OTB. He used to tell me that it was a loser sport. I would then ask him why he played. His response was that he didn't care about losing a few bucks but he loved the camaraderie. He loved talking and watching the people. The greatest show on earth. Most of all he loved the variety of food Sunnyside had to offer, pizza, chinese food, greek food, and the Butcher just off Queens Boulevard. My father and Mother passed away in an assisted living facility in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. My Mother passed two years ago and we all felt that my father would pass shortly thereafter. He fooled of all. He passed away on 9/11 2016, four years after my Mother. It's a coincidence he passed on 9/11 because he was a NYC policeman for 32 years. He was retired at the time of 9/11 however he was first responder at other incidences that occurred in NYC. Most of his police career was spent at the 6th precinct in Greenwich Village. He loved being a policeman, his wife and Sunnyside. Pop, Sunnyside will also miss you. Charles L. Novak, his eldest son and Frank Novak the youngest son. Visitation will be Thursday, September 15 from 4-8PM at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Prayer Service will be held 10:00 am on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, Inc, 43-07 Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside, NY. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens following the Service
